Buckfast Abbey, near Buckfastleigh on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, is home to a community of Roman Catholic Benedictine Monks. The Abbey Church of St Mary stands on the original Benedictine monastry site that dates back to 1018, and was formally reinstated as an abbey in 1902. Work started on the existing abbey church in 1907 and completed in 1938.
Topsham is a quaint estuary port on the east side of the River Exe. The town has many distinctive buildings designed in the 17th Century Dutch-style merchant house.
